Catana Group has launched its 14th Bali Catamarans model: the Bali 5.8. It’s a 59-foot boat with a nearly 30-foot beam.
The design, according to the builder, allows for nearly 20 percent more space on board than traditional catamarans of the same size.

The owner’s stateroom is en suite with an oversized shower. Each of the guest staterooms has an island berth, allowing easy access on either side. Owners can also order the boat with twin berths, and a six-stateroom version is available. Bali’s team notes that even in that six-stateroom version, each of the staterooms has separate showers and toilets. In the master version of the vessel, a captain’s cabin is available.
The galley has cupboards and a widened countertop that is U-shaped, to accommodate several people underway. The dining area seats 12 people with a lounger where guests can relax in between meals. There’s also an integrated bar.

A deep, wide outside bench seat faces the saloon for stretching out with a good book, or indulging in a nap. Forward, there’s a door and an opening window, allowing in fresh air for natural ventilation.

The forward-facing chart table is set apart, so skippers can plan routes while being within earshot of the saloon, but without being disturbed.
Outside the forward door is a foredeck for sunbathing, dining and lounging. There’s also a rooftop for relaxing or congregating with friends.
The sail handling and helm areas are clearly delineated. A hardtop (or a Bimini top) covers the entire flybridge, and solar panels are integrated.

At the stern are steps for accessing the water. A chair is installed here for views aft. The optional hydraulic swim platform can lift a tender, or can be lowered just beneath the surface for use as an onboard beach.
In terms of sailing, there’s a self-tacking jib for upwind performance in strong winds. A code zero can be handled from the cockpit. The boat’s weight is reduced by the use of carbon in place of bulkhead reinforcements, similar to on the Catana line. This method of construction also helps to minimize squeaks and creaks underway.

When will sailors be able to get on board the Bali 5.8 for a look? The boat is expected to be at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which is scheduled to run September 10-15. It is Europe’s largest in-water show for new and pre-owned boats up to 164 feet long.
