Boating Magazine Editors Win Prestigious Awards

Boating Magazine Executive Editor, Pete McDonald, took First Place in the Video category of the annual Boating Writers International (BWI) contest. McDonald was joined at the podium by Boating Contributing Editors, Jeff Hemmel, who took First Place in the Gear, Electronics and Product Tests category, and Chris Caswell, who won Second Place in the Fishing category.

According to a press release from Boating Writers International, in BWI’s 2023 Contest, presentations in 16 content categories were made to first, second and third place scorers. Winners received a recognition plaque noting their “Excellence in creating compelling content about boating through entertaining, educational and inspiring journalism.”

This year’s BWI Awards (presented now for 31 years) attracted 76 participants submitting 248
entries. All submissions to the contest were published in 2023. Each of the categories (noted below along with sponsors) was judged by four active journalists in the first few weeks of 2024.

Boating Editor-in-Chief, Kevin Falvey made the following statement:

“I congratulate all winners in this contest, which attracts the best and brightest in our industry. I am especially proud of, and grateful for, the award-winning work produced by McDonald, Hemmel and Caswell. These professionals work at the highest levels all the time, to provide boaters with the best information, presented in the best way. It is great to see them recognized.”

“In closing, I’d like to recognize Boating’s video and print production teams for their expertise in producing Boating content week after week, month after month and year after year.”
