If you have a small(ish) boat that you think rides better on open water than the Blue Cat 17, you could possibly win $10,000.
That’s the offer from popular Instagram creator, Center Consoles Only (CCO). Known for producing a variety of social media content, CCO promotes the Blue Cat 17, an outboard-powered center console fishing catamaran, largely on the basis of its great ride.
While many Instagrammers applaud CCO and the Blue Cat 17, there is a cadre of netizens, pejoratively referred to as, “Keyboard Captains,” by some, that refuses to believe CCO’s claims about the seakeeping ability of the diminutive multihull.
In response, CCO is offering $10,000, in cash, to the “ small” boat that can beat the Blue Cat 17 in an ocean race. The term “small” is being used as a catch-all term to make sure all entrants are similar boats.
Of course, for boats in this size category, speed is not the only factor that will win a race. With less than 20 feet of waterline, a boat can only go so fast in any kind of waves. The boat that rides smoother–or that is run by a crew that can take more punishment–will be the biggest factor in which boat emerges triumphant.
The course is to be from Miami, likely starting at Stiltsville, to a point “to be determined on the day” some miles offshore, and back.
The date for the race is July 29, 2025.
