Popular Fort Myers Marina to Reopen After Post-Hurricane Rebuild

Legacy Harbour Marina, a longtime waypoint for cruisers along Florida’s west coast, is set to reopen in 2026 after a full redevelopment effort following the destruction left by Hurricane Ian.

AIRN Management, LLC, which owns the marina, has partnered with Bellingham Marine to rebuild the downtown Fort Myers facility. Construction began in early 2025, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

Hurricane Ian made landfall in September 2022 as a Category 4 storm, devastating large portions of Southwest Florida. Legacy Harbour, located on the Caloosahatchee River just steps from Fort Myers’ River District, was left in ruins. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Ian caused more than $112 billion in damage statewide, making it the costliest hurricane in Florida’s history.

“This marina has always played an important role in the Fort Myers boating community,” said Rick Budd, chief executive officer of AIRN Management. “We’re committed to restoring Legacy Harbour in a way that not only honors its history, but brings in modern improvements and safeguards for the future.”

Plans call for 131 slips ranging from 40 to 150 feet. The new dock design incorporates Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat® concrete wave attenuator system, secured by 70-foot steel piles, along with Unideck® aluminum frame docks fitted with WearDeck synthetic decking. The systems are designed to enhance protection, stability and long-term value.

Upgrades include larger steel pipe piles with HDPE sleeves for durability, plus modern utility services: potable water, in-slip pump-out, fire suppression, fiberglass dock boxes, and both single- and three-phase power.

In all, the marina spans about 13 acres, including eight acres of submerged land and nearly five upland acres. Its location provides direct access to the Gulf of Mexico and easy walkability to downtown Fort Myers’ dining and cultural attractions.
